Cheshire Poet Laureate Pat Mottola is pleased to host a poetry reading at Riverbound Farm Sanctuary, featuring Denise Low and Terry Blackhawk! If you are new to poetry, you are in for a wonderful awakening: poetry is for everyone! Bench seating will be available, but feel free to bring your own lawn chair or cushion.

Denise Low

Denise Low, former Poet Laureate of Kansas, is a founding board member of Indigenous Nations Poets (In-Na-Po) and programs the Indigenous Voices series for The 222, an arts organization in Sonoma County, CA. She taught at Haskell Indian Nations University, where she founded the creative writing program. Her Ph.D is in literature and MFA in Creative Writing.

Terry Blackhawk

Founder and Director of InsideOut Literary Arts Project, Terry Bohnhorst Blackhawk spent years shaping young minds through the art of poetry in the heart of Detroit. Blackhawk’s impact reached as far as the White House where InsideOut was recognized in a 2009 award ceremony by Michelle Obama for its mission of encouraging youth to think broadly, create bravely, and share their voices with the wider world.
